We are the students of the Fugitivity architecture masters’ design studio at Monash University.

Architecture is deeply embedded in the violence of settler colonialism, the most prominent example of which is happening in Palestine and Lebanon right now. This is due in part to architecture’s status as an accredited profession that devises the planning, design and representations that uphold capitalist ideology. We live in a world where elaborate architectural systems and apparatuses are purpose-designed by people of our profession to oppress others, instead of the world of peace that is entirely plausible. This is the result of architects’ refusal to participate in discussions regarding their own professions’ complicity; of continuing to serve elites; of neglecting the average human; and failing to acknowledge the inherent social act of architectural production.

The genocide in Palestine is not an isolated incident, but part of the larger settler-colonial project. In protest, the students of Fugitivity are donating more than half of our grad show exhibition budget to aid in the liberation of Palestine and Lebanon from occupation, through medical aid for children. We request others to join us.

We are Master of Architecture students from Melbourne, Australia. The funds raised will go to the Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund, which provides medical attention to the children who need it the most and helps to relieve the medical sector in Gaza and Lebanon. This organisation is located in Lebanon, collaborating with people on the ground in Gaza, in Egypt, in Jordan, and in Syria. United Palestine Appeal are kindly being the fiscal sponsors of GASCF until they are a fully registered entity.
